Reliance

Although you may not often think about it, you rely on many things and many people. For example, you rely on the mail delivery person to bring your mail, the electric company to supply power and your employer to pay you the money you have earned. You come to expect certain things like the day turning to night, and the change of seasons. Reliance is having faith or trust in something.

Lately, there has been a lot of talk about the "new normal".  The term is meant to describe the change that has occurred and replaced what was once usual and customary. Change always creates turbulence and unrest. It makes people uncomfortable because they have a sense of loss or of loss of control. The familiar and usual is replaced with unfamiliar and different. This leads to fear, mainly, of the unknown. It is as though normal and trusted go away and are replaced with uncertainty and confusion.

With all the talk about change, and what we have come to know as progress, you may start to feel as though there is not much you can rely on. It is as if things constantly change and evolve so that nothing can ever be consistent and for sure. That may be very true for all things except for Jesus Christ. He never changes. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He is constant and everlasting. His love and his Word go on forever. You may have anxiety over life's changes and challenges, but through all things you can put your trust and faith in the One who transcends all things. Jesus Christ is here for you now and forever. Trust Him and know that there is nothing more certain than His mighty hand upon your life.

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your strength comes from God's grace, not form rules about food, which don't help those who follow him." Hebrews 13:8-9
