Fishing Lessons

There is a proverb, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." Teaching is important. It provides opportunity and increases ability so that people can reach their potential. When someone learns to fish they can enjoy quiet time alone with nature and catch their own dinner. There is another type of fishing that Jesus referred to which is to be a fisher of souls. For many people it is much easier to learn to fish than to learn to bring people to Christ.

You may be someone that wonders how you can share Jesus Christ with others. Perhaps you are shy or worried about exactly what to say. You may have never had the experience and are afraid that you won't be successful or are embarrassed. Most Christians are not given "fishing lessons" on how to share their faith. Even so, you need not to worry. The best way to share your faith is by the way you live. Other people are watching you. They see the way you interact and behave. Your kindness, care and patience speak louder than words. See, you are fishing every day!

Then he said, "Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you'll get plenty of them!" So we did and couldn't draw in the net because of the weight of the fish, there were so many! John 21:6
