Everything's Coming Up Roses

Where does success come from? Is it created and designed? Does it just spring forth from out of nowhere? There is much written on the subject of success from famous authors that have taken the time to study it. They interview successful people and try to glean the secret ingredient that, if instilled in others, will lead them to a life on easy street. These are brilliant, thoughtful people who have done things correctly and made it in the world. Right? Well, it may not be just like that.

Success is more than just the numbers on a financial statement, owning expensive homes and furnishings, or being in a position that seems important and prestigious. It is not the result of having the "proper" education, coming from the "right" part of town, or aligning yourself with those that may appear to be of good intentions.

Success is judged not by earthy measures, but rather by God himself. He makes the final assessment on whether a person was successful in living the life He provided them. When you consider success from God's perspective, the criteria will not involve wealth, possessions, and status at all. Instead, it will consider an account of service to God, knowing and sharing the truth about Jesus Christ, and the lives impacted because of these. Do not lose your focus for your mission on earth. If you feel as though everything is coming up roses and you have "arrived", you should stop and take a look around. You may just be living a fairy tale created by the enemy himself to keep you from having the life God created you to live.

So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.

1 Corinthians 3:7
