Sound of Silence

Peace and quiet. Calm and tranquility. These are just a few of the things that many long for. If only there was a way to find a place to be still, unwind, and renew. Silence may be a very sought after commodity but one that is difficult to locate and enjoy. Here are just a few suggestions about your quest for silence:

1. Enjoy the sounds that are sent to you as a blessing. These include the sweet sound of children laughing, loved ones saying "Hi, I am home", the song of the birds in the morning, beautiful music, hearing the words "I Love You".

2. Give praise to the Lord for the gift of hearing. Many live in a silent world because they have lost or never had that the ability to hear even the loudest sound.

3. If your world is one that is busy, rise ten minutes early to enjoy the quiet morning before your day begins. This is a great way to sneak away and be with God in prayer or reflection.

4. If all else fails, enjoy a quiet moment while you drive to work, shopping, or home without the distraction of the radio. This is for some people the only chance they have all day to escape the noise and conversation of the day. Savor and enjoy it.

5. Silence is golden and in the quiet times you will discover a treasure when you turn to God's Word and take the time to speak with the Lord and listen for His often small voice.

Finally, enjoy every moment of your life including those that are full of sound and those that are quiet moments. It takes both to weave the tapestry of your story on your journey with Jesus Christ.

"Men listened to me expectantly, waiting in silence for my counsel." Job 29:21
